Tartans Fall to Capital 1-0 in First Road Game

Sept. 9 – (DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team dropped its first match of the year, 1-0, to Capital University at the Adidas Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, September 9. The Tartans are now 1-1-1 on the season while the Crusaders are 2-1.

The Tartans had a ton of opportunities but were not able to get one in the net. Three Tartan shots were blocked in the first 15 minutes of the game before Capital's Zach Inman scored the eventual game-winner at the 24:04 mark.

The Crusaders scored on a counter attack as the Tartans were pushed forward for a series of corner kicks. Tim McCarthy was able to find Inman with a pass with just two defenders ahead.

As the second period started, the Tartans peppered the Capital defense as sophomore Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) and senior Carmen Minella (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each had a shot six seconds apart that were saved by Capital's Bob Weisgarber.

Senior Kyle Young (Bethel Park, Pa.) had two shots saved by Weisgarber in the 60th minute, as Weisgarber preserved the win with two more saves in the last eight minutes.

Junior keeper Zach Stahl (East Brunswick, N.J.) made one save on the night and the Crusaders managed just three attempts in the second period.

The Tartans play host #13 Ohio Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday during the second day of the Adidas Invitational.
