#9 Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at #11 Rochester in UAA Showdown

Nov. 1 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The 9th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team traveled to #11 University of Rochester Sunday, November 1 and dropped a 1-0 decision in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The loss was the first for the Tartans in UAA play as they move to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the UAA, while the Yellowjackets improve to 12-1-2, 5-1. The two teams are now tied at the top of the UAA standings heading into the final week of action.
Carnegie Mellon had a perfect opportunity to strike first. In the 10th minute of play, senior
Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and UAA leading scorer, senior
Ricky Griffin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) ran a give and go as Brown's shot on the thru ball tipped away for corner kick.
Less than four minutes following the Tartans attack, Rochester's senior midfielder Scott Cady scored his seventh goal of the season to give the home team a 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute. Cady's goal was a header off a crossed ball from the right side from senior Phil Proud.
The Tartans had a chance to tie the score in the 35th minute, but a wide open
Pat Lutz (Lebanon, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) missed timed a pass from senior
Keith Haselhoff (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) and the ball went over the end line.
Browne had the last chance for the Tartans in the 88th minute, but his shot sailed wide of the net and Rochester went on to claim the 1-0 victory.
The Cardinal and Gray were out shot by the Yellowjackets 13-11. Senior keeper
Maks Khurgin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) had five saves in the loss, while senior Yellojacket keeper Mike Peacock recorded one.
The Tartans will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, November 8 when they travel to Atlanta to play the Emory University Eagles. The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
