#11 Tartans Tie Emory in Regular Season Finale

Nov. 7 – (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The #11 Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team tied host Emory University 2-2 in its regular season finale on Saturday, November 7 to finish the season 14-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in University Athletic Association play. The Eagles improve to 11-4-2 and 2-3-2.
Senior midfielder
Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) opened the scoring with a marker in the 22nd minute off an assist from senior forward
Pat Lutz (Lebanon, Pa./Lancaster Country Day). The Tartans put five other shots on goal in the first half but were unable to extend the lead before the break.
In the 62nd minute, Browne added a second tally to give the Tartans a two-goal advantage. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder
Jon Simon (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and junior defender
Max Betzig (Pinckney, Mich./Greenhills).
The Eagles never gave in on their home field scoring a goal in the 82nd minute and then again two minutes later.
Browne nearly had the Tartans celebrating at the end of regulation but his shot in the 83rd minute was tipped away by Trenton Spindler in goal for the Eagles.
The overtime periods were evenly played with shots by both teams and one save apiece for the goalkeepers.
The Tartans now have to see what happens around the league to hear their conference title fate. Postseason news will be released Monday afternoon as the Tartans wait for the draw.
