James Hulley Recognized as 2010 NSCA Athlete of the Year
April 19 - (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recently awarded James Hulley (Northampton, Mass.) with its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. The NSCA recognizes hundreds of collegiate athletes every year for their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
“James is the most dedicated athlete I have ever had the opportunity to coach,” said strength coach Kevin Schultz, CSCS, through a release by the NSCA. “At an institution as academically challenging as Carnegie Mellon, James has found a way to be able to maintain a superior grade point average along with performing multiple training sessions per day. James has exceptional understanding of strength and conditioning concepts and has used this knowledge to benefit him as a national caliber thrower. Not only does he follow the strength and conditioning program to a “T” but he also takes time to perform daily cold and hot tub sessions, implements nutritional timing benefits and has a proper understanding for nutrition. He also applies other advanced methods of recovery to enhance training sessions.”
In 2009, Hulley was an indoor and outdoor national qualifier in the shot put and won University Athletic Association (UAA) championships in indoor shot put and weight throw and outdoor shot put and discus. Already in 2010, Hulley competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships and was the UAA indoor champion in the shot put and weight throw.
In total, the NSCA awarded 232 collegiate athletes from 106 schools with this esteemed award. The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 32nd year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tennessee fitness product leader.
