Carnegie Mellon Ranked 20th Among Division III Institutions In Comprehensive Academic and Athletic Study

Sept. 22 – (CHICAGO, Ill.) – For yet another year, Carnegie Mellon University was ranked among the top programs in Division III in the annual Power Rankings released by the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA). Carnegie Mellon placed 20th out of 447 Division III institutions and was 59th out of almost 1,100 NCAA schools across the three divisions. Fewer than 6 percent of colleges and universities earned a spot in NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Top 100 for 2011, and Carnegie Mellon University is one of those elite institutions.

The NCSA Power Rankings are calculated for each college/university at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels by averaging the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup ranking, the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate of each college/university and the U.S. News & World Report ranking. The collegiate power rankings based off of the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup rating evaluates the strength of NCAA athletic departments, while the U.S. News & World Report rating recognizes institutions of academic excellence. The student-athlete graduation rates are based on those provided by the NCAA.

“Carnegie Mellon student-athletes are accomplishing great things in the classroom and in their athletic pursuits,” said Director of Athletics Susan Bassett. “We are proud to once again be ranked among the premier institutions in the country with regard to academic and athletic success.”

Carnegie Mellon has sustained its success since breaking into the rankings eight years ago. The university has been ranked as high as 13th after its most successful year in the athletic arena earned it 26th in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.
