Carnegie Mellon Ranked 13th Among Division III Institutions In Comprehensive Academic and Athletic Study
Sept. 17 – (CHICAGO, Ill.) – For the second consecutive year, Carnegie Mellon University was ranked 13th in the annual Power Rankings released by the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA). Carnegie Mellon placed 13th out of 447 Division III institutions and was 24th out of almost 1,100 NCAA schools across the three divisions.
The NCSA Power Rankings are calculated for each college/university at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels by averaging the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup ranking, the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate of each college/university and the U.S. News & World Report ranking. The collegiate power rankings based off of the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup rating evaluates the strength of NCAA athletic departments, while the U.S. News & World Report rating recognizes institutions of academic excellence. The student-athlete graduation rates are based on those provided by the NCAA.
“We are so proud of all our student-athletes accomplish academically and athletically,” said Director of Athletics Susan Bassett. “This ranking signifies that Carnegie Mellon student-athletes are excelling at everything they do. It really is a great indication of the wonderful balance our student-athletes have throughout their collegiate experience at Carnegie Mellon.”
Carnegie Mellon was ranked 13th in 2009, but has shown significant progress in the NCSA rankings during the past few years. In 2004, Carnegie Mellon was ranked 39th and was ranked between 20th and 23rd from 2005-2007. The university climbed to 15th in 2008 and continued its rise in the rankings the following year.
