Carnegie Mellon Athletics to Serve as Host for Prestigious ACLS Public Fellows Program

ACLSFeb. 7 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation has been selected as one of 13 non-profit organizations to serve as a host for the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) 2012 Public Fellows Program. Carnegie Mellon is the only university selected for one of the prestigious positions, which provide vocation-building experiences for recent Ph.D.s in the humanities and humanistic social sciences for a two-year period.  
    
Among the other 12 organizations selected for the ACLS Public Fellows Program were the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, Oxfam America, Human Rights Watch and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Through the ACLS Program, Carnegie Mellon is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation for the two-year period. The successful candidate will have involvement with all aspects of leading and managing the comprehensive athletics and recreation program at the university.  The Assistant Director will have responsibility for initiatives related to academic welfare of student-athletes and intercollegiate athletics programs in general.
    
ACLS Fellows will participate in the substantive work of each selected organization and receive professional mentoring. Compensation will be competitive with new professional employees of the hosting organization and will include health insurance for the fellow.
