Tartans Split a Pair at UAA Round Robin #2

Oct. 14 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – On the second day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2, Carnegie Mellon split a pair of  matches falling 3-0 to Emory University before knocking off the University of Rochester in straight sets. The Tartans are now 14-10 and 4-3 in UAA play.

The Tartans opened the day against the number sixth team in the nation, Emory University, falling 30-23, 30-22, 30-21. Freshman Caroline Size (Lewes, Del./Saint Thomas Moore Academy) led the team with 10 kills. Sophomore setter Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Conor) collected 25 assists, while freshman Cameron Griffin (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded 11 digs. Defensively, the Tartans were led by sophomore Jessica Brackin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) who total four blocks.

In their second match, the Tartans won 30-20, 30-25, 30-24 over the University of Rochester. Brackin and junior Chisom Amaechi (New Haven, Conn./Hopkins) led the offense with 12 kills each, as senior Abbie Toney (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) recorded 10 in the win.  Carter tallied 42 assists and had six service aces, while Griffin finished with 11 digs.  Brackin once again led the defense with six total blocks, three solo.  Toney and Amaechi each had two block assists.

The Tartans will conclude their 2207 home schedule when they host La Roche College Wednesday, October 17 in Skibo Gymnasium.  The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
