Tartans Move on to ECAC Championship

Nov. 10 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – In the ECAC South Tournament Semifinal, the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team took down University Athletic Association member New York University 3-0 to advance to the championship against Johns Hopkins University. This marks the second time the Tartans have defeated the Violets this year while they improve their record to 22-15. Johns Hopkins was a 3-0 winner over Washington & Jefferson in the first semifinal match and improved their record to 25-5.

Carnegie Mellon spread the offense around as sophomore setter Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor) finished with 31 assists. Sophomore Jessica Brackin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished with a team-high nine kills while junior Chisom Amaechi (New Haven, Conn./Hopkins) put away six kills with no errors for a .545 hitting percentage. Freshman Caroline Size (Lewes, Del./Saint Thomas More Academy) tallied eight kills in two games played.

The Tartans totaled 20 blocks with Amaechi leading with seven. Freshman libero Cameron Griffin (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished with 20 digs while Carter tallied eight. 

The Tartans will face Johns Hopkins for the first time this season at 12:00 p.m. at Skibo Gymnasium for the ECAC South Championship.
