Tartans Take 3rd Place at UAAs

Nov. 3 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Tartans volleyball team took third place at the University Athletic Association Championship by defeating Brandeis University 3-1 with scores of 30-26, 26-30, 30-20, and 30-18. Carnegie Mellon University finishes the season with a 20-15 overall record and a 7-4 UAA mark.

The offense was on point during the third place match as four players finished with at least 10 kills. Sophomore Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor) set up 53 kills on the afternoon as sophomore Jess Brackin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) again hit over. 470 with 11 kills.

Senior Kate Stepp (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Megan Killeen (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) also tallied 11 kills, while senior Abbie Toney (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) finished with 10.

Defensively, freshman Cameron Griffin (Lake Forest, Ill.) picked up 28 digs and Brackin turned away seven Brandeis attempts. In total, the Tartans picked up 23 blocks in the match. Sophomore Julie Ng (Beijing, China) came in to play two games helping in the back row with four digs.

Carnegie Mellon started the day witha 3-0 loss to Washington University in St. Louis. Brackin led with eight kills while Carter has 28 assists. 

The Tartans will not wait to hear about postseason possibilities. NCAA and ECAC bids will be given out Monday, November 5.
