Brackin, Carter Lead Tartans in 3-0 Win
Nov. 2 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – A pair of sophomores led the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team's attack in a 3-0 win over Case Western Reserve University (30-25, 30-20, 30-28) in their second game of the University Athletic Association Championship. The Tartans are 2-0 heading into their third game against Washington University in St. Louis, with the winner advancing to the championship match.
Sophomore Jess Brackin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) led three hitters in double-digits with 15 kills and an attack percentage of .591, while sophomore setter Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor) picked up 46 assists for the match.
Joining Brackin in double figures was junior Chisom Amaechi (New Haven, Conn./Hopkins) and senior Abbie Toney (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) with 12 and 10, respectively. Sophomore Megan Killeen (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) came off the bench to pick up seven kills in two games.
Senior Kate Stepp (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) was all over the court digging up 15 opponent attempts and tallied eight kills offensively. Freshman Cameron Griffin (Lake Forest, Ill.) again totaled over 20 digs with 27 for the match and also picked up three assists.
Brackin was a force at the net contributing five blocks, including three block solos as she closed out the match with two consecutive kills. Amaechi also blocked four while Toney had three stops at the net.
The Tartans will next square off with the Bears of Washington University on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Rochester.
