Volleyball Wins Two

Oct. 28 - (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon’s volleyball competed at the Waynesburg College Quad Saturday and came away with two 3-0 victories. The Tartans played Bethany in their first match and posted a 30-16, 30-17, 30-24 victory before defeating Thiel 30-19, 30-21, 30-21 in the nightcap.

In the Tartans match against Bethany freshman Jessica Brackin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) led the way with 14 kills and four block assists. Senior right side Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was the only other Tartans with double digit kills as she post 10, while junior Abbie Toney (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) had nine kills.

Defensively the Tartans were led by senior libero Kat Fox (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) and senior outside hitter Amanda Bradford (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) with 15 digs and seven, respectively. Setters, senior Brea Carlock (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and freshman Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor) recorded 26 and 20 assists apiece.

Brackin left off were she started in the match against Thiel posting a career-high nine total blocks (seven block assists). Bradford also was a force at the net recording five total blocks (four block assists) of her own and tallied 13 digs and ten kills.

Carnegie Mellon moves to 18-12 overall and will be back in action Friday and Saturday as they host the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday.
