Carnegie Mellon Takes Three from Pitt-Greensburg

Sept. 20 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg for a non-conference match after taking the weekend off from action. The Tartans defeated the Bobcats 3-0 (30-23, 30-25, 30-28) Wednesday evening to move to 4-7 on the year.

Leading the Tartans on offense were seniors Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Amanda Bradford (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill). Fisher tallied 14 kills while Bradford topped out at 10. Setting Fisher and Bradford were senior Brea Carlock (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and freshman Samantha Carter (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor). Carlock led the way with 23 assists, while Carter had 15.

Defensively for Carnegie Mellon, senior Kat Fox (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) had 10 digs as freshman Cara Fatigati (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) dug up nine Bobcat attack attempts. Senior middle hitter Malena Yablinsky (Patton, Pa./Cambria Heights) had three block assists at the net.

With game three leaning towards a loss, freshman Megan Killeen (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) came up with two straight kills to finish off the game and the match.

The Tartans will host the first of three tournaments at Carnegie Mellon on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23. Action starts at 2:00 p.m. but the Tartans don't start until 6:00 p.m. when the play Gettysburg.
