Tartans Topped in First UAA Contest

Oct. 1 - (CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team started University Athletic Association (UAA) play Saturday, October 1 against #1 Washington University. First round action is being held at Case Western Reserve University.

The Tartans fell in three games to the number one ranked team in the nation by scores of 30-23, 30-13, and 30-21.

Junior RS Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) led the Tartans with 10 kills, 11 digs, and two block assists. Junior MH Becky Metler (McLean, Va./Kent Place (N.J.)) followed Fisher with 8 kills and also had one block solo, two block assists and one service ace. Junior setter Brea Carlock (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) picked up 25 assists.

Junior OH Amanda Bradford (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) starred defensively for the Tartans with 12 digs.

The team resumes play Sunday against #6 New York University at 9 a.m. and against University of Chicago at 11:30 a.m.
