Tartans Take Second At Ohio Northern Tournament

Sept. 3 - (ADA, Ohio) - Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed Saturday, September 3 in the final day of the Ohio Northern University Tournament and finished in second place with a 2-1 mark.

In the Tartans first match Saturday they defeated Alma College 3-1 (25-30, 30-17, 30-25, and 30-14). Leading the way for Carnegie Mellon was junior Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) with 13 kills, two block solos and two black assists. Two other Tartans recorded double digit kills, senior Chrissy Bartek (Plum Borough, Pa./Plum) had 10 kills and junior Kat Fox (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) recorded 12 kills and added 12 digs. Junior setter Brea Carlock (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) tallied 39 assists.

In the Tartans second game they fell 3-1 to the 10 th ranked Polar Bears of Ohio Northern by the scores of 18-30, 30-28, 28-30, and 25-30. Carnegie Mellon was once again led by Fisher with 18 kills, Fox recorded 13 kills and 22 digs, and Bartek finished with 12 kills and two block solos. Junior Amanda Bradford (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) led all Tartans with 23 digs. Carlock registered 49 assists.

Both Fox and Fisher were named to the All-Tournament Team. Carnegie Mellon will be back in action September 9 and 10 as they will travel to Baldwin-Wallace to participate in the annual Yellow Jacket Tournament.
