Tartans Volleyball Advance To ECAC Southern Semifinals
Nov. 11 - (ANNVILLE, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed at the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Region Tournament Friday, November 11 hosted by Lebanon Valley College. In the quarterfinal match up the Tartans defeated the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-26).
Carnegie Mellon was led by junior Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) with 11 kills. Junior MH Becky Metler (McLean, Va./Kent Place (N.J.) was the only other Tartan with double digit kills, as she finished with 10. Senior Chrissy Bartek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) added nine kills and junior Amanda Bradford (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had eight. Junior setter Brea Carlock (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) registered 37 assists in the win. Junior Alex Gutschick (Severna Park, Md.) collected four service aces, while Fisher, Bartek and Carlock had three each.
Defensively, junior libero Kat Fox (Oklahoma City, Okla./Cassady) and Bradford totaled 14 digs each. Metler tallied five block assists, as junior MH Malena Yablinsky (Patton, Pa./Cambria Heights) finished with four.
Carnegie Mellon will move on to the semifinals of the ECAC Southern Region Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, November 12. They will face the Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m. The Tartans defeated F & M earlier this season 3-2 at the Juniata Invitational. The winner of that game will play in the championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
