Two Carnegie Mellon Volleyball Players Receive All-UAA Status
Nov. 9 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) Two Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) teams when the squads were announced Nov. 9. The Tartans (19-18), who finished fourth in the regular season, also finished fourth at the league tournament, which was held at Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Earning second team honors was senior middle hitter Chrissy Bartek (Plum Borough, Pa./Plum) and junior right side hitter Catie Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield).
Fisher leads the Tartans in hitting percentage (.285), kills (522) and kills per game (3.95) and is second in service aces (43). Bartek leads the Tartans with 114 blocks and is third in kills with 322. Both were named to the second team in 2004 as Bartek received the honors in 2003 as well.
Carnegie Mellon’s season will continue at the ECAC Southern Region Tournament, which is being held at Lebanon Valley College November 11-12. For the Tartans, this marks the seventh straight year of making postseason play. They made a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2001 and have won five ECAC Division III Women’s Southern Volleyball Championships since 1999. They will play Friday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m. against Washington & Jefferson.
