Women's Track & Field Finishes 6th at UAA Championships

Mar. 8 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – Carnegie Mellon University's women's indoor track and field team completed competition at the University Athletic Association Championships with a sixth place finish on Saturday, March 8 at Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans earned all 18 of their points during the final days competition. The University of Chicago nipped Washington University in St. Louis for the title by three points, 151-148.

Junior Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) earned the Tartans first point with a sixth place finish in the triple jump leaping 10.68m. Sophomore Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) broke her own school record in the 400 meter dash as she became a UAA Champion with a time of 59.35.

Freshman Laura McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) finished sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.50 and the 4x400 meter relay team earned All-UAA with a third place finish of 4:10.05. The team consisted of Simmons, senior Shauna Ormon (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Magnet), Mattingly and freshman Courtney Baker (Fairfax, Va./Nashoba Regional).
