Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at Day One of UAA Championships
Mar. 7 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s indoor track & field team participated in the first day of the 2008 University Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans narrowly missed getting points in some events but had some solid performances in the preliminaries of other events and numerous personal bests on the day.
Sophomore Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) broke her previous school record in the preliminaries of the 400 meter dash. Her time of 59.57 seconds placed her third. Freshman Laura McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) goes into the finals of the 800 meters seeded sixth thanks to her personal record time of 2:24.71.
Junior Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished seventh, just missing collecting points, in the 200 meters courtesy of a season best time of 27.18 seconds. Freshman Morgan Faer (Newton, Mass./Newton North) was the top Tartan in the 55 meter hurdles and her personal record time of 9.52 seconds put her in tenth place.
The Carnegie Mellon women’s distance medley relay consisted of sophomore Crystal LeePow (Montclair, N.J.) running the 1200 meters, senior Shauna Ormon (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Magnet) running 400 meters, Mattingly running an 800, and senior Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) finishing with the mile. The Tartans placed seventh in the race with a time of 13:37.54.
The Tartans will be in action again tomorrow for the final day of the UAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
