Women’s Track & Field Host Tri-Meet
Simmons Breaks Two School Records

Apr. 9 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s track and field team hosted the Carnegie Mellon Tri-Meet on Tuesday afternoon. The unscored meet consisted of competitors from California University of Pennsylvania, Franciscan University, the host Tartans, and a handful of athletes from Duquesne University.
Junior
Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) set two school records at the meet, one in the triple jump and one in the long jump. Simmons won the triple jump in a school record distance of 11.09 meters and placed third in the long jump with a record jump of 5.31 meters. Freshman
Melissa Hwang (Paramus, N.J.) also broke the previous school record as she finished fourth in the long jump (4.97 meters).
Sophomore
Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) ran a personal record time of 2:22.18 to win the 800 meters. Freshman
Courtney Baker (Fairfax, Va./Nashoba Regional) finished second in 2:25.37 in her first 800 meter race. Sophomore
Timi Abimbola (Potomac, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) finished second in both the 200 meters (28.00) and the 100 meters (13.59) and freshman
Morgan Faer (Newton, Mass./Newton North) finished second in the 100 meter high hurdles (17.41 seconds).
Freshman
Danielle Fisher (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) ran a personal best and finished third in the 400 meter hurdles (72.71 seconds), junior
Jennifer Kim (Park Ridge, N.J.) threw personal bests in the hammer throw (32.46 meters) and the discus (28.70 meters) and she came in third and fourth respectively. Junior
Emily Giacomarra (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) ran a season best in the 100 meter high hurdles (17.46 seconds) en route to placing third. Sophomore
Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md.) placed third in both the 3000 meters and the pole vault. Lenhart ran 11:56.57 in the 3000 meters and vaulted 2.59 meters in the pole vault. Faer finished third in the shot put (9.09 meters) and freshman
Erica Spiritos (New York, N.Y./Bronx HS of Science) ran a personal best and came in third in the 400 meters (67.83).
The Tartan 4x100 meter relay team placed second with a time of 52.13 seconds and their 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 4:06.46.
The Carnegie Mellon women’s track and field team will compete again this weekend when they travel to compete at Robert Morris on Saturday, April 12.
