Women’s Indoor Track and Field Looks Sharp at Baldwin-Wallace

Feb. 15 – (BEREA, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s indoor track and field team suited up and competed for the fourth time this indoor season on Friday, February 15 at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid February Meet. The unscored meet had the Tartans go up against strong competition with Divisions I, II, and III represented.
Freshman Melissa Hwang (Paramus, N.J.) set personal bests in the triple jump (10.52 meters) and the long jump (4.78 m) en route to placing third and fourth respectively. Freshman Laura McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) doubled up and finished third in the mile (5:29.00) and fourth in the 800 meters (2:29.80). Freshman Courtney Baker (Fairfax, Va./Nashoba Regional) raced the 300 meters taking third place with a time of 44.72 seconds. Junior Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was behind her in fifth place (45.73).
Senior Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) collected a fifth place finish in the 1,000 meters in a time of 3:16.84. Sophomore Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) and senior Shauna Ormon (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Magnet) placed fifth and sixth in the 800 meters in times of 2:33.57 and 2:34.84 respectively.
Sophomore Rotimi Abimbola (Potomac, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) was the top Tartan in the 200 meter dash, placing ninth with a time of 28.99 seconds. Junior Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shady Side Academy) finished first on the team and eighth overall in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:01.85, and sophomore Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md.) finished tied for fifth in the pole vault (2.59 meters).
The Carnegie Mellon 4x400 meter relay team won with a time of 4:18.03 and the 4x200 meter relay team took third with a time of 1:53.20.
The Tartans women’s indoor track and field team will return to action next Saturday, February 23, when they travel to Kent St. in Kent, Ohio.
