Women’s Track & Field Compete at Bucknell

Feb. 9 – (LEWISBURG, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women’s indoor track and field squad performed at the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday amongst tough competition. The unscored meet saw the Tartans collect numerous top ten finishes.
Sophomore
Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) finished fourth in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:23.58 and she was followed by senior
Ashley Bakelmun’s (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) eight place finish (2:31.12) and sophomore
Crystal LeePow’s (Montclair, N.J.) ninth place finish (2:32.58). Freshman
Laura McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) raced in the 1000 meters, finishing eighth overall in a time of 3:10.65. The Carnegie Mellon 4x400 meter relay ran a season best 4:12.03 as they finished eighth overall.
Senior
Shauna Ormon (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Magnet) ran a season best in the 400 meters en route to finishing 15th overall (63.14 seconds). Freshman
Morgan Faer (Newton, Mass./Newton North) placed tenth in the shot put with a personal best of 9.49 meters and she also was the top Tartan in the 55 meter hurdles (9.56 seconds), good for 20th overall.
Junior
Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) equaled her distance from last weekend (10.40 meters) in the triple jump and she finished 13th overall. Sophomore
Rotimi Abimbola (Potomac, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) was the top Tartan in the 55 meter and 200 meter dashes. She placed 22nd overall in the 55 meters (8.08 seconds) and 27th overall in the 200 meters (28.92).
The Tartans will next be in action on Friday, February 15 when they compete at Baldwin-Wallace.
