Women’s Track & Field Members Compete at Allegheny Invite

May. 9 – (MEADVILLE, Pa.) – A few members of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s track and field team competed at the Allegheny Invite on Friday, May 9. Some members were looking to set personal bests while others were also looking to qualify for nationals. The competition at Allegheny was strong in the unscored meet.
Sophomore
Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) qualified provisionally for nationals in the 800 meters as she set the school record with a second place finish of 2:13.58. Mattingly also bettered her school record in the 400 meters with a fifth place finish of 58.31 seconds. Freshman
Courtney Baker (Fairfax, Va./Nashoba Regional) ran a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing eighth with a time of 2:18.76 and senior
Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) set a personal best of 2:20.23, finishing 11th overall.
Junior
Chrissy Krutz (Natrona Heights, Pa./Shadyside Academy) set a personal best in the 5000 meters with a 24th place finish of 20:32.92. Junior
Sami Simmons (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) placed sixth in the long jump (4.93 m) and finished tied for seventh in the triple jump (10.67 m). Sophomore
Crystal Lee Pow (Montclair, N.J.) raced in the 400 meter hurdles and placed 17th in 70.80 seconds and freshman
Morgan Faer (Newton, Mass./Newton North) took 13th in the 100 meter high hurdles (17.26 seconds) and 14th in the hammer throw (30.91 m).
Some athletes will compete on Tuesday, May 13 at the Tuppeney Classic hosted by Swarthmore College.
