Women’s Track and Field Race at Case

Jan. 27 – (CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon women’s track and field team finished seventh out of 12 teams at the Spartan Relays hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, January 27. The Tartans finished with 50 points and Case Western Reserve won the meet with 82.

Sophomore Jessica Meng (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and senior Becky Metler (Bridgewater, N.J./Kent Place) each racked up points for the Tartans in a pair of events. Meng finished fourth in both the high jump (1.47 meters) and the triple jump (10.28 m), while Metler placed fifth in the shot put (10.74 m) and seventh in the weight throw (11.48 m). Freshman Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) had Carnegie Mellon’s highest finish of the day, as she came in second in the pole vault with a height of 2.44 m.

The Tartans’ 4x400 meter relay team consisting of junior Shauna Ormon (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Nagnet), senior Amber Fuller (Los Angeles, Calif./F Bravo Medical Magnet), freshman Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.), and sophomore Jackie Andreozzi (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) finished third with a time of 4:21.53, and the 4x200 meter relay team took home fifth place with a time of 1:52.30.

In individual running events, senior Stef Penn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 20:27.56. Juniors Carrie Kmetzo (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) and Erin Gagnon (Lebanon, N.H.) finished sixth and seventh in the race, with times of 20:51.12 and 21:15.21, respectively.

Junior Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) came in sixth place in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:33.29 and sophomore Emily Giacommara (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) placed seventh in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.75.

The Carnegie Mellon women’s track and field team will compete again this Saturday, February 3 at West Virginia University.
