Women’s Track and Field Starts Indoor Season with 11 Wins

Jan. 20 – (GRANVILLE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon women’s track and field team started their indoor season on Saturday, January 20 when they traveled to compete in the three-team Denison University Invite. The unscored meet consisted of the Tartans, Denison University and Kenyon College.

The Tartans won eleven events in the meet with sophomore Jessica Meng (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and senior Becky Metler (Bridgewater, N.J./Kent Place) each winning a pair of events. Meng won the long jump (14’07.50) and the triple jump (32’10.00) and Metler took top honors in the shot put (36’06.50) and in the weight throw (36’11.00).

Sophomore Jackie Andreozzi (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) won the 200 meters in 28.47 and freshman Diane Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) won the 400 meters in 1:04.54. Senior Stef Penn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished first in the 3,000 meters, in a time of 11:47.45 and sophomore Emily Giacommara (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) won the 55 meter hurdles in 9.87.

Freshman Anna Lenhart (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) won the pole vault with a height of 8’00.00 and freshman Jessica Williams (Portage, Pa.) won the high jump with a height of 4’6.00.

The Tartans also won the 4x400 meter relay and they will next be in action on Saturday, January 27 when they compete at Case Western Reserve University.
