Women’s Track Places Seventh at UAA Championships

Mar. 4 - (CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon women’s indoor track and field team competed at the 2006 University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships Saturday, March 4, held at the University of Chicago. The Tartans finished with 19 team points for a seventh place mark.
Junior Becky Metler (Bridgewater, NJ/Kent Place) led the way fro the Tartans placing third in the weight throw and sixth in the shot put. Metler had distances of 12.44 meters in the weight throw and 10.89 in the shot put. Sophomore Adriane Soehner (Honeoyo Falls, N.Y./Honeoyo Fall-Lima) placed fifth in the weight throw behind Metler with a distance of 12.34 meters.
Carnegie Mellon’s two relay teams, the 4x400 and distance medley, each placed fourth. The 4x400 team of junior Amber Fuller (Los Angeles, Calif./F Bravo Medical Magnet), sophomores Shauna Orman (Rochester, N.J./Wilson Nagnet) and Ashley Bakelmun (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), and freshman Jacki Andreozzi (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) crossed with a time of 4:11.95. Bakelmun and Andreozzi then teamed up with seniors Jocelyn Sikora (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and K J Helmstetter (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) in the distance medley relay to record a time of 12:46. 54.
For Carnegie Mellon Sikora and Bakelmun each turned in sixth place individual finishes. Sikora’s came in the one mile (5:17.13) and Bakelmun’s in the 800 meters (2:26.60).
