Women’s Track Places Seventh at Spartan Relays

Jan. 28 - (CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon women’s indoor track and field team competed at the Case Western Reserve Relays Saturday, January 28, as the Tartans finished seventh out of a field of nine scoring 40.33 points. This was the first team scoring meet that Carnegie Mellon competed in for the 2006 season. The Tartans turned in four top three finishes on the day.
Junior Becky Metler (Bridgewater, NJ/Kent Place) led the way fro the Tartans placing second in the shot put and third in the weight throw. Metler had distances of 10.88 meters in the shot put and 11.59 in the weight throw.
The Tartans turned in two other top three finishes, one coming from senior Drea Garvue (Bellevue, Wash./Northwest) in the 5000 meter run placing second with a time of 19:04.97. The other came in a third place finish by sophomore Allison Hannon (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) in the pole vault, as she jumped a height of 2.48 meters.
The Tartans will be back in action Saturday, February 4 as they travel to Denison University for the Big Red Invitational.
