Women Compete at Big Red Invitational

Feb. 4 - (GRANVILLE, Ohio) – Three Tartan track and field participants claimed a first place finish at the Denison University Big Red Invitational on Saturday, February 4. Carnegie Mellon, along with four other schools competed in the unscored invitational. Senior middle distance runner Jocelyn Sikora (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) nearly took home a pair of victories, while two field athletes earned top spots.
Sikora finished two seconds ahead of her closest competitor in the 1,500 meter race, as she finished in 5:20.44. Later in the day, she finished just behind Kim Murley of Denison in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:28.90.
Freshman Jessica Meng (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) easily took home the triple jump crown with a jump of 34'04.50, nearly two feet greater than the second place finisher. Sophomore Allsion Hannan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) earned the pole vault title in the last event of the day, vaulting 8'01.00.

K.J. Helmstetter (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) also earned a top three spot on Saturday with a second place finish in the 3,000 meter race. Her time of 10:55.23 put her just behind Jessica Holder of Denison.
