#9 Tartans Will Play for UAA Championship

Apr. 19 – (ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The #9 Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University will once again play for the University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championship after defeating the host school and #14 Washington University in St. Louis 7-2 in the semifinals on Saturday, April 19. The Tartans will face #4 Emory University on Sunday and attempt to snap their 20 match win streak in the championship round of the UAA Tournament.

The Tartans #1 and #2 doubles teams each won against the Bears pushing the Tartans to a 2-1 lead. The Cardinal and Gray then won 1-5 singles matches to take the 7-2 win.

Senior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow), a two-time UAA MVP, won her number one singles match over Erin Swaller 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Kelly Hart (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Joaquin) and sophomore Alisa Liebowitz (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) both won their singles matches 6-3, 6-3 while freshman Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) and Ashley Herrick (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) both won in three sets.

The campionship match is set to start at 9:00 a.m. central time on Sunday in St. Louis.
