#6 Women's Tennis Outlast #8 Pomona
Mar. 13 – (CLAREMONT, Calif.) – The sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team recorded their second straight win over a top ten opponent defeating #8 Pomona 7-2 Thursday. The Tartans concluded their trip out west with a 4-1 record playing all nationally ranked teams in five straight days. With the win their overall record moved to 11-3 as Pomona falls to 6-3.
The freshmen duo of
Kelly Hart (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Joaquin) and
Ashley Herrick (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) trailed 6-1 at second doubles before catching fire and defeating Kasyn Stevenson and Rebecca Lange 9-8 (6) to give the Tartans a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
The Tartans freshman continued to be the bright spot, as Hart, Herrick,
Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) and
Danielle Rosenfeld (Gladwyne, Pa./Harriton) all won their singles matches in straight sets. Sophomore
Alisa Liebowitz (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) also won in straight sets defeating Kathryn Myers 6-1, 6-3.
