Women’s Tennis Continues to Advance at ITA Regionals

Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) continued her fantastic run through the ITA Regionals with another trip to the semifinals of singles play and will compete for the doubles title with freshman
Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) when play concludes on Monday, September 24.
Staloch defeated Yasmine Elamir of Johns Hopkins 6-4, 6-1 before having to face her doubles partner in the quarterfinals of singles action. Staloch topped her teammate 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. Chui advanced to face Staloch by shutting down Jessica Armes of Mary Washington 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles play, Staloch and Chui first defeated the team of Erica Lukoksi and Rachel Wallwork of Swarthmore, 8-4, before topping Stacey Rickard and Amy Sheetz of Mary Washington 8-5. Staloch and Chui will face Washington & Lee’s Lauren Caire and Katie Tabb in the finals at 9:00 a.m. Monday.
Also competing for the Tartans on Sunday was freshman Kelly Hart (Montecito, Calif./Santa Barbara). Hart defeated Stephanie Kurti of Mary Washington, a three seed, 6-2, 6-1 before falling in the quarterfinals to Kelly Will of Washington & Lee in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 1-6.
Freshman Brooke Loar (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) also played in the round of 16 and fell in a tough match to Anita Bhamidipati of Johns Hopkins 6-7(6), 5-7.
Staloch’s singles semifinal match will be at 8:00 a.m. Monday against Caire.
