#8 Tartans Give #19 Hopkins First Loss of Year

Apr. 6 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The #8 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team welcomed undefeated Johns Hopkins University to Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon and sent them home with their first loss by a 7-2 score. The Tartans are now 13-5 on the year, while #19 Hopkins falls to 9-1.

The Tartans swept doubles action as senior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow) and freshman Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) won 8-2 on court one. Sophomore Alisa Liebowitz (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and freshman Danielle Rosenfeld (Gladwyne, Pa./Harriton) also won 8-2 but in the three slot. The freshman pair of Kelly Hart (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Joaquin) and Ashley Herrick (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) won 8-4 on the middle court.

Staloch was the first to finish her singles match and put away Brittany Matava 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in the number one spot. Hart then won at number three singles 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 to seal the win for the women.

Also taking victories on the day were Herrick at number five singles (7-5, 6-0) and Rosenfeld at number six singles (6-2, 6-1).

The Tartans will next be in action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to West Liberty State College for an 11:00 a.m. match.
