#5 Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak With 9-0 Win
Mar. 1 – (OBERLIN, Ohio) – Hours after shutting out Oberlin College on their home courts, the fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team upended University Athletic Association opponent Case Western Reserve. With the 9-0 victory over the Spartans the Tartans move their record to 7-2 with their seventh straight victory.
For the second straight match the Cardinal and Gray won all the singles play in straight sets, including three shutouts. Freshmen
Brooke Loar (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington),
Ashley Herrick (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and
Danielle Rosenfeld (Gladwyne, Pa./Harriton) all won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.
Freshman
Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) was given the nod at first singles and had no problem recording the victory. Chui defeated Kristin Ko in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Prior to Chui's win in singles play she teamed up with senior
Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) to record their fourteenth victory on the season at first doubles. The due downed Ko and Marta Worwag 8-2 improving to 14-2 at first doubles.
