Chui, Nemerov and Girard Honored by Region

May 9 – (SKILLMAN, N.J.) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released their yearly awards with three members of the Carnegie Mellon University tennis program representing the South Atlantic Region. Freshmen Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) and Alex Nemerov (Lake Forest, Ill.) were both named ITA Rookie of the Year with Head Coach Andrew Girard garnering ITA Women's Coach of the Year honors.

Nemerov finished the year with a 21-6 record in singles play ending with eight straight wins. One of those eight wins include a pivotal win at number three singles in the Great Lakes College's Association Championship match which the Tartans won 5-4 over #7 Kenyon College.

Chui was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Rookie of the Year after pacing the #7 Tartans to an 18-8 overall record and a second place finish at the UAA Tournament. The first year Tartan played number two singles for the majority of the year and finished with a 18-13 singles record. She combined with senior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) to win 23 number one doubles matches and will compete for the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championship starting May 16. She was also an ITA All-American in the fall for winning the ITA Regional in doubles.

Girard picks up his first regional coach of the year award.  All three are now finalists for the ITA National awards, as they will be announced Thursday, May 15.
