Carnegie Mellon Women's Tennis Ranked 11th in Nation; Fourth in Atlantic South Region

Dec. 11 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team has achieved the program's highest ever team national ranking for the second straight season. The Tartans find themselves with a ranking of 11th. It marks the third straight season that the Tartans have been nationally ranked and only the fourth time in the history of the program. The Tartans are fourth in the Atlantic South Region. The top seven teams in the region when year-end regional rankings are announced qualify for the NCAA tournament.

Individually, the Tartans have five singles players and all three doubles tandems in the regional rankings. Highlighting the way for the Tartans is junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow) ranked first followed by senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and freshman Alisa Liebowitz (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) at 13th and 18th. Staloch and Iyer are ranked third in doubles.

Liebowitz and freshman Andrea Meythaler (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) rank 13th in doubles, while Meythaler is 34th in singles. Sophomore Kelly Nakamura (Waihawa, Hawaii/Punahou) rounds out the Tartans singles ranking at 43rd and her and teammate Claire Weiss (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) come in ranked at 28th in doubles.

Carnegie Mellon will open their spring season February 3, as they travel to Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania to face the Rock, a Division II program.
