Dension Gets Best of Tartans in NCAA Match

May 5 - (GRANVILLE, Ohio) - In a rematch of a regular season battle, #11 Denison (Ohio) University got the best of the #14 Tartans again, this time by a 5-2 score in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships. Carnegie Mellon finishes the year with a 13-9 record and their third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. Denison will continue in the tournament and host DePauw (Ind.) University, a 5-0 winner over Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College.

The NCAA bound team of senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) gave the Tartans a point with an 8-5 win at number one doubles. Staloch then got revenge of her own defeating Meghan Damico at number one singles 6-1, 6-1 after falling in a three set match earlier in the year.

Iyer and freshman Alisa Liebowitz (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) both led their matches after the first set but both fell in three, while freshman Andrea Meythaler (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) led during the first set before falling 7-5.
