Iyer UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Apr. 4 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance this past week while posting a perfect 4-0 record at second singles.

Three of Iyer’s wins came over nationally ranked NCAA Division III opponents and the other was an impressive victory against NCAA Division I University of Pittsburgh. After starting the week with a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 13-11 victory against Pittsburgh, Iyer rattled off straight-set victories against opponents from 13th-ranked Denison University (7-6, 6-1), 10th-ranked University of Mary Washington (6-3, 6-3), and 27th-ranked Kenyon College (6-4, 6-2).

She teamed up with junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow) at first doubles to tally a 3-1 mark, the lone loss coming against Pittsburgh. Iyer has now won five straight in singles play and seven of her last nine in doubles.
