Iyer, Staloch Take UAA Athlete of the Week

Oct. 17 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon's women's tennis team earned recognition for their performance at the ITA National Small College Championships over the weekend. Senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) received University Athletic Assocation Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week prestige as a doubles combination.

The pair placed third at the tournament held at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla., from Thursday, October 12 to Sunday, October 15.

Iyer and Staloch won their first match of the tournament of a pair from the College of New Jersey 5-7, 7-6 (3), (12-10). After a semifinal defeat to Laura Fanjoy and Gabriela Carvalho of the University of the South (7-6, 6-3), the pair came back to defeat Amanda Romana and Elizca Buys of Carthage College, 6-3, 6-1, to bring home third place.
