Staloch Wins ITA Regional

Sept. 25 - (FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Carnegie Mellon women’s tennis team had two players advance to the final day of ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships Monday, September 25. Junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow) placed first in singles competition, while Staloch and senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) bowed in the doubles championship.

The Tartans #1 singles player, Staloch, seeded number one defeated Ginny Wortham (6-4, 6-4) in the semifinals before taking down second seeded Katie Tabb (6-4, 6-4). Both wortham and Tabb are from Washington & Lee University.

In the doubles championship match Staloch and Iyer fell 8-5 to Sonya Reynolds and Sara Sargent of Swarthmore College.

Staloch will now compete at the 2006 the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers October 12-15. Last year she was crowned the ITA National Championship and received the James O' Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award.
