Women’s Tennis Players Receive Invite to ITA Championships
Oct. 3 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon doubles team of senior Mona Iyer (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and junior Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow) of the women’s tennis team received an At-Large doubles bid to compete at the 2006 the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships. The tournament will be held at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers October 12-15.
The duo is one of eight doubles teams in the country to compete in the competition. Last year Iyer and Staloch finished the season rank third in the nation and two year’s ago they were runners up at the ITA Championships. They became the first women’s tennis player or doubles team to have competed for the National Small College Championship in school history back in 2004.
Staloch won the singles title at the 2006 Southeast Regional after being seeded first in the tournament and received the automatic berth to the ITA Championships in singles. This marks the second straight year that Staloch will compete at the championships. Last year she was crowned the ITA National Championship and received the James O' Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award.
