Women's Tennis Ranked 12th in Nation

Nov. 12 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team has achieved the program's highest ever team national ranking at #12 in the Fall National Rankings. It marks the second straight season that the Tartans have been nationally ranked and only the third time in the history of the program, the first being in December 2001 when they were ranked 30th. The Tartans are 4th in the Southeast Regional Rankings. The top seven teams in the region when year-end regional rankings are announced qualify for the NCAA tournament. A tournament berth would mark the second straight for the Tartans and the second ever in Carnegie Mellon's history.

Individually, the Tartans have two singles players and two doubles teams in the regional rankings. Highlighting the way for the Tartans is sophomore Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow), ranked second in the region after claiming the 2005 ITA Division III National Championship. Staloch and freshman Kelly Nakamura (Waihawa, Hawaii/Punahou) rank #10 in the region in doubles.

Carnegie Mellon’s other duo regionally ranked is sophomore Samantha Schultz (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and freshman Sheena David (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou), as they come in at 14th. David is ranked 19th in singles competition in the region.

Carnegie Mellon will open their spring season February 12-15, as they travel to Kenyon College in a tri-match against Kenyon, Chicago and Denison.
