Women’s Tennis Players Bow Out In Quarterfinals At ITA Regionals

Sept. 25 - (FREDERICKSBURG, VA.) – Carnegie Mellon women’s tennis team had three players advance to the second day of ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships Sunday, September 25. The Tartans had three players advance to Sunday’s field of 16 with two falling in quarterfinal play along with the doubles tandem of Amy Staloch and Sheena David.

The Tartans #1 singles player, sophomore Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H. H. Dow), seed number one, 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16 before seeing her ITA run stopped. She was forced to retire due to injury during the quarterfinals. The ninth seeded Sheena David (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) upset the sixth seed 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16 before falling to the third seed 6-0, 6-4.

After unseeded freshman Kelly Nakamura (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Punahou) defeated her opponents in the first day of action, 6-0, 6-2 and upsetting the twelfth seed 6-3, 6-3 saw her ITA competition come to an end as she was defeated 6-1, 6-0

In doubles action the team of Staloch and David, who are seeded second, advanced to the quarterfinals and were forced to retire due to Staloch’s injury.
