Staloch Wins ITA National Championship; Receives the James O' Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award

Oct. 15 - (FORT MYERS, Fla.) Carnegie Mellon University women's sophomore tennis player Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) competed in the finals of the ITA National Small College Championships at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL, Saturday, October 15. Staloch was victorious as she claimed the Division III Championship.

Staloch defeated Serena Burkard from Emory University 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7), Saturday, in the ITA National Small College Championship match. Staloch was down two match points in the second set before battling back to win the second set 7-6 and 7-3 in the tiebreaker and then took set number three 7-6 (9-7).

Staloch becomes the first women's singles player in school history to win the National Small College Championship. Staloch not only captured the NCAA Division III ITA singles title Saturday, but she also received the James O' Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award. This award goes to a men's and women's player who displays outstanding sportsmanship and exemplifies the spirit of college tennis during the course of the ITA National Small College Tennis Championships.
