Staloch Defeats #1 Seed to Advance to the ITA Finals

Oct. 14 - (FORT MYERS, Fla.) - Carnegie Mellon University women’s sophomore tennis player Amy Staloch (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) competed in the semifinals of the ITA National Small College Championships at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL, Friday, October 14. Staloch was victorious in the semifinals, advancing to the National Final match Saturday.

Staloch defeated #1 seeded Jeannine Liang from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Staloch will face Serena Burkard from Emory University tomorrow, Saturday, in the ITA National Small College Championship. Burkard was victorious in her semifinal match winning 6-1, 6-4.

Last year, Staloch and teammate Mona Iyer became the first doubles team in Carnegie Mellon University history to have competed for the National Small College Championship. This year Staloch becomes the first singles player in school history to play for the National Small College Championship.
