Andrews Leads Tartans to Win in Invite

Sara Andrews (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won two individual events and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team as the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team won their invitational with 592 points against Youngstown State University (544), California University of Pa. (449), Slippery Rock University (268) and Lock Haven University (145) on Friday, February 1.
Andrews won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.75 and recorded a season-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.23 beating out teammate Anna Kochalko (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) who finished second with a time of 2:34.34. Kochalko, a senior, also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.52 and second in the 200-yard IM with a season-best time of 2:20.65.
Freshman Rebecca Ussai (Cleveland, Ohio/Beaumont) won the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 2:12.84 and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.10) behind freshman teammate Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) who touched first in 59.48.
Also picking up a first place finish was senior Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J.) in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 24.82. The winning 200-yard medley relay team consisted of Evans, Andrews, Connell and freshman Brianne Burton (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central). Senior Xiao-Lan Wong (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) had a season-best time in the 1,000-yard freestyle touching third in 11:07.92.
The women's team will host a time trial event on Saturday, February 9 before heading to the University Athletic Association Championships on February 20.
