Tartan Women Win Seventh Meet at Westminster

Jan. 26 – (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University's women's swimming and diving team won their seventh dual meet of the year defeating Westminster College on the road in their final dual meet of the year. The team won seven events and finished second in six events on their way to the 108-95 win.
Senior Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J.) and junior Allison Retotar (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills) finished one-two in the 100-yard freestyle with Connell touching in 53.98 and Retotar recording a season-best 56.74. Connell also won the 50-yard freestyle in a near season-best time of 24.96 ahead of freshman teammate Brianne Burton (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) who touched second in 25.91.
Freshman Rebecca Ussai (Cleveland, Ohio/Beaumont) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.21 just ahead of senior teammate Anna Kochalko's (Encinitas, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) time of 2:15.15. Kochalko also finished second in the 200-yard breatstroke in 2:37.58.
Senior Xiao-Lan Wong (Edison, N.J/John P. Stevens) finished first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 18:57.69 and junior Becky Martz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) finished second in 19:02.61.
Freshman Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) turned in another two-win day with a victory in the 200-yard IM breaking her fifth school record this year with a time of 2:09.59 and the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best 5:05.70.
The women's 400-yard medley relay team started the meet with a winning time of 4:07.96 and sophomore Sara Andrews (Washington, Pa./Trinity) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.63.
The women host the California University of Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock University and Youngstown State University in their final home meet of the year on Friday, February 1st at 6:00 p.m. at the University Center Pool.
