Evans Sets UAA Record as Tartans Finish 4th at UAA Championships

Feb. 23 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the UAA Championships on Saturday behind seven All-UAA performances. Capturing the title was Emory University while New York University edged the Tartans for third place by 143 points.

Freshman Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) opened the day winning the 200-yard backstroke with a UAA record time of 2:04.67 which also qualified her yet again for the NCAA Championships in March and broke her previous school record by .04. 

Senior Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J.) earned All-UAA marks with a third place showing in the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 53.32. Fellow senior Anna Kochalko (Encinitas, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.97 earning her third All-UAA mark of the meet.

The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Connell, Evans, freshman Brianne Burton (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) and junior Allison Retotar (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills) finished third to end the meet with another All-UAA mark and topped the season best time with a mark of 3:36.44. 

Junior diver Charlotte Jennings (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) scored a national cut on the 3-meter board as she placed fourth and junior Alex DeFazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished eighth.
