Women Swim Well on Day 2 of Nike Invitational

Nov. 30 – (GAMBIER, Ohio) – The second day of competition at Kenyon College's Nike Cup Invitational saw another women's swimming record broken for Carnegie Mellon University. The Tartans sit sixth after two days of competition and are ahead of Johns Hopkins and Washing & Lee on the Division III level.

Senior Anna Kochalko (Encinitas, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) finished second in the bonus final of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.26, while freshman Rebecca Ussai (Cleveland, Ohio/Beaumont) also competed in the bonus final and finished fifth touching the wall at 2:13.93.

Freshman Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) had a sensational day starting with a sixth place finish overall in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.39) earning a “B” cut qualifying mark topping her previous best time during the prelims (1:53.83). She then broke a school record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.75 in the preliminaries. Kochalko also competed in the bonus final of the 400 IM finishing seventh in 4:40.52.

Sophomore Sara Andrews (Washington, Pa./Trinity) reached the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke finishing sixth in a career-best time of 1:07.97 to earn 10 points for the Tartans.

The 200-yard freestyle relay set a new season top time with an eighth place finish (1:39.58) by senior Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J.), freshman Brianne Burton (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central), Andrews, and Evans. The 400-yard medley relay saw the Tartans finish 10th with a time of 4:01.02, a second off the pace of a "B" cut. The team was comprised of Evans, Andrews, Ussai and Connell.
