Tartans Take Out Gators in Final Home Meet

Jan. 19 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – In the last home dual meet of the year for the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team, the Tartans defeated Allegheny College by a score of 162-129 after winning 9 events for the day. The women now have a 6-1 dual meet record this season.

Three career-bests and one season-best were the highlights of the day for the Tartans as senior Xiao-Lan Wong (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) recorded a career time in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:28.51. Senior Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J.) had a season-best in the 50-yard freestyle (24.92), freshman Noelle Helmstetter (Clinton Twp., N.J./The Peddie School) had a career-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:14.93) and freshman Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) beat her school record time in the 100-yard backstroke (58.51).

Connell picked up her second individual win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.00 with sophomore Sara Andrews (Washington, Pa./Trinity) taking second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.25) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.78).

Freshman Rebecca Ussai (Cleveland, Ohio/Beaumont) won both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly in times of 1:01.18 and 2:13.42. Evans won her second event in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.24 to finish the day.

The Tartans return to action on Saturday, January 26 when they travel to Westminster College for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
