Tartans Swimming Swept by Westminster in Final Dual Meet

Jan. 28 - (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Tartan’s men’s and women’s swimming teams swam against Westminster College in their final dual meet of the year Saturday, January 28, as both teams fell to the Titans. The men were outscored 139.5-122.5, while the women were defeated by the Titans 137-125.

The men were once again led by senior Brian Hunter (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and junior David Krzeminski (Grandville, Mich.). Hunter finished the afternoon with four, three individual and one relay, first place finishes, as Krzeminski had three, two individual and one relay. Hunter placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season best time of 59.39, 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.48) and the 200-yard IM (1:58.22), while Krzeminski finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (51.96), 200-yard butterfly (1:55.28), and then placed second in 100-yard freestyle (47.87). Both teamed up with senior Evan Powell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Ryan Piper (Ft. Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) in the 200-yard medley relay placing first with a time of 1:36.89.

The only other men’s first place showing was in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Powell, sophomores Michael Bailey (Quinton, Va./New Kent) and Patrick Snyder (Marlton, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) along with freshman Brad Henderson (Solon, Ohio) finished with a time of 1:28.21. Powell also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.04 two tenths behind the first.

Sophomore Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J./Hasbrouck Hts.) was the bright spot for the Tartans, as she claimed four, three individual and one relay, first place finishes. Connell placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.3), 100-yard freestyle (54.28) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.59). She then teamed up with senior Allie Theus (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), junior Jenny Sieger (Newton Square, Pa./Radnor) and sophomore Tong (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) in the 200-yard freestyle relay and placed first with a time of 1:41.94.

Sophomore Alexandra Kinzler (Apollo, Pa./Plum) earned two individual first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.52) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.71). She took in a second place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:18.43).

Sieger and Tong each had an individual first place finish as well. Sieger’s came in the 50-yard freestyle (25.48), , while Tong placed first in the 100- yard backstroke (1:02.13).

The Tartan swim teams will be in action again February 8-11, as they will compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships held in Atlanta, Ga. at Emory University.
